Yes, that might be the main reason that Thanos already knows Tony Stark because, in Avengers Infinity War seen, on planet Titan, Thanos said that “Tony, you are not the only one who is cursed with knowledge”.

So, the movie goes to a few lengths to draw parallels to IronMan and Thanos. Tony says early on that, that Thanos has already been in his head for last 6 year, since New York attack. And Tony already noticed that the same thing has happened in Age of Ultron where he has seen Earth destroyed, and it was the cause of 'Post Traumatic Stress Disorder' in the movie Ironman (Part3). And here everything has set up that could go wrong with the world.

From that time maybe it is possible Thanos have a look on Tony Stark.
